I had the amazing opportunity of meeting the renowned Pacific Northwest Native American artist, Lillian Pitt! She even signed the book I illustrated about her ~ Last year, I partnered with Tracy Thompson at the Carnegie Picture Lab to develop a children's book about Lillian Pitt and her journey to becoming an artist as she discovered her cultural heritage. It was a beautiful process of discovery - I learned so much about the Native Americans of the Pacific Northwest! It was further a treat that Lillian Pitt visited the Walla Walla Public Library last weekend to share her experience as an artist and the her interpretation of the fable, She Who Watches. I even came to learn that Lillian Pitt herself was responsible for the safe removal of the petroglyph from the dynamite cite of Celilo Falls. It now rests peacefully at Columbia Hills State Park. Oh, and did I mention...? :
