I just got done mocking up this book cover illustration for Edgar Allan Poe's classic short story, The Tell-Tale Heart.
For this project, I decided to render the cover graphically flat and with a minimalist's touch. I concentrated on a controlled color pallet of black, white, and red. Small details like the grain of the wooden door, floorboards, and the vintage wallpaper were an after thought, but I think carry through pretty well! I had a lot of fun steering away from my usual linework and instead working with flat colors and minimal texture.
This story was defiantly one that stood out to me as a child and made my bones chill! I wanted to bring a bit of that dark mood I recalled as a kid to the front cover, today.
